3D Interiors for Google Earth
This post on the Google Earth Blog re-awakened my interest in the ability to walk "through" a building in Google Earth.
Hamish and I got interested in the possibility to show buildings online in 3D many moons ago when we discussed exactly this capability.
We even developed our own unique app that allowed you to show .dae (COLLADA) files in 3D within the browser and loved the potential of projects such as this.
However, it soon became apparent that Google was well on the way to implementing the widespread use and interaction of 3D building models via Google Earth. So we decided to use their well supported tools and got into "Geo Modeling". Back then we were a little concerned about the inability to actually walk "through" the buildings but perhaps this latest development hints at that ability becoming widespread in Google Earth in the future....
Yes, that video is shown entirely from Google Earth, the model was created by someone known as PeterG and it is a fine finished product indeed. You can fly to the location in Google Earth with this .kml file.
If you would like to explore the possibility of showing the exterior and interior of your building off in Google Earth and on your website, get in touch with us today.
Thanks again to the Google Earth Blog
