My Maps

Posted over 1 year ago by Ash

If you're looking to get a better understanding of the geographic web, and how you might be able to create content for it, I strongly recommend you check out Google My Maps.  To access this functionality go to http://maps.google.com/  and click on "My Maps".

This is a great tool for creating and sharing information via the Geo-Web and, as usual, Google is giving it to you free of charge.

Its not just maps either, as you can see in the example below, in the top right corner you can toggle between "Earth" and other layers. Estate3D's buildings are shown on the Earth layer and you can navigate through them in 3D using a standard 3 button mouse. Don't have a 3 button mouse? Hold down the SHIFT key while moving around; you'll soon get the hang of it.

Have a play with the example shown, I created a simple placemark with a video of my hometown's beloved "Moko" the friendly dolphin (taken by local film prodigy "Cowps") along with a few others that are relevant to local businesses in the vicinity. Click the "Earth" button and have a look at some of the 3D buildings in the area.
